Why do people refer to the hierarchy as THE Church?

So? It's the only place for salvation. And this isn't just an opinion, it's fact. Relativists like you think salvation can be found at whatever church takes their fancy.

Given how the Catholic Church has conducted itself in the last few decades I'm amazed it managed to be as high as 50%

they aint irish ROMAN catholics anyway., their rebels, dissenters, turn coats, irish catholics,,,, so they wanna leave? let them off if thats all it takes to turn them from their faith - what on earth chance do they have to hold to any faith when the coming anti christ gets after them and their very lives are at stake?

no big news to me --- sure didnt many walk away from Christ himself , leaving to ask even his own apsotles at the time - "will you leave to?"

Excerpt from referenced Article: “The poll also seems to show that viewing the Church unfavourably doesn’t in itself indicate anti-Catholicism. This is probably to be found among the 22 pc of people who say they would be happy to see the Church vanish from Ireland completely.

FYI the Church isn't the hierarchy, the survey seems to assume the term church for hierarchy as do most posters here. Wrongly.

The Hierarchy is the only place of salvation? Only Bishops and Cardinals are saved?

Eh... No... I'm sure there are plenty of Popes roasting in hell right now.

So your saying the only way to God is through the RCC?
I may know someone who said something different.

The Church though is the Body of Christ (Im not saying that only the RCC compromises the Church) and His continuing presence on earth through the Holy Spirit in human hearts, it could be called a continuation of the Incarnation, it is the meeting point between the created and Uncreated, a Divine-human reality. Its wrong I think to "The Church" on one side and Christ on the other and say that its Christ that saves (which of course is true but missing the point about what St Paul actually teaches about what the Church is).

Ahhh CMpunked, no one said the RCC was the only way to God, at least no one who knew what they were talking about.
Jesus is the way, through Him we are saved, the church is the body of Christ ergo through the church we are saved. See it makes sense now.
The RCC is a denonination of the Church which takes the position that it is certain of salvation through the RCC, it doesn't say that their is no salvation through other denoninations only that if you want to be sure, to be sure, stick with us.
You pays your money and takes your choice.
