Am thinking of doing general science in UCD next year, and have my hopes set on genetics. Does anyone know how hard it is to get Genetics as your specialized choice? And how many places are there for it?

It's not hard at all.. The three you have to worry about are Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology, which are the most competitive (in that order) and you'll have to have a good GPA to get into. But if you're planning on not being a total waster, your GPA should be fine for whatever.

There's 40 places in Genetics for 2nd years. But since you pick two streams for 2nd year, some people might drop Genetics going into 3rd year, so your class might be much smaller for the final two years. Also, you can't do Genetics as part of any of the Joint Honours degrees, so all of ye will be Single Honours.

It's probably the most badass of the sciences, just sayin'...
