We've just moved into a new house, and there's an immersion heater. It seems to be a really old one, and we've simply got no idea how to use it properly. I'm really hoping someone here can help!

    Firstly, here's a picture:

The "Boost" setting gives us hot water, but only for a short-ish period. We can't figure out the timing system. There's no buttons to press in to select the times you want it on. The dial is movable, but it rotates slowly itself (presumably doing 360 degrees over 24 hours). We'd like hot water in the morning and evening - can anyone tell me if there's a way to set this? Neither of us have ever had a water heater like that before. Thanks!

Not really suitable for that kind of heating.
It was designed to make use of cheap overnight power to give hot water in the morning.
Manual was a simple google away from typing in the name of the unit.
Changing it for something more modern would pay for itself pretty quick.
I picked up a 24 hour in 15 minute interval controller on adverts.ie a few years back for 20-30 euro - worth a look or call a plumber. Good luck with the warm water!

Nice one, thanks! I tried googling it originally, but nothing came up. I obviously didn't use the right search terms. Thank you!

They were put in on gold shield homes about 12 years ago. Set the time to the time of day & press the on switch on the right , it should come on at the night rate if that is what you have. The 2 hour boost on the bottom ( circular knob) is only a top up & is more expensive to run ( assuming you have a double tarrif meter )
