Hi, I'm looking to buy a new laptop over the weekend. I went in to PC World today and was recommended this one http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/AC-5750-BLK-I52430-Acer-/308012/301 by the sales guy. Its €579. The product description is blank for some reason but I've copied what it has from another site -

Acer Aspire 5750 15.6 inch Notebook (Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor, 4 GB RAM , 500 GB HDD, DVD-Super Multi DL drive, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) .

Before I left I noticed this one http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-NPS3520A03DX-156-Laptop-Silver/307983/301 which is only €399 plus I like the look and feel of it.

Obviously I'd prefer to spend less money but I don't want to do that if I'm going to end up with an inferior machine. So question is is it worth spending the extra on the Acer or is the Samsung a good deal?

I need it for college work (just essays and that sort of thing) and internet mainly. I can't stand slow machines so that would be a consideration too.

Thanks a million if you can be of help.

The Samsung is god awful in comparison to the Acer. There's literally no comparison whatsoever.

Celeron vs Sandy Bridge i7 Quad Core. The Celeron is the lowest entry level CPU that Intel sell. A Sandybridge i7 Quad Core is in their top bracket. It's like putting up a BMW 316 against a BMW M5 in terms of the difference in performance.

The title for that laptop - AC 5750 BLK I52430 - Acer - suggests that its an i5 2430m, not the i7 that you listed. Still, the i5 is much better than the Celeron

Thanks for the advice. Do you think the Acer is a good choice then?

you'd get a good one for less than 575 for what you need it for, check out some other sites - saveonlaptops, amazon, powercity even have good deals sometimes
