    Your independence wasn't stolen. You sold it to buy an overpriced buy-to-let property. Never mind that you had no idea where the money to repay the bank was going to come from. It's not as if everyone's salary grew at the same rate as property prices shot up, so ... who was going to pay your mortgage for you? Nobody, as it turned out.
