i cant get the lights in the car, the cabin bulb above your head to work or the light in the boot to work either, its a 00 focus, i changed the bulbs ans checked the fuses and still not working, i got my hands on a multimeter to test for power, before i check it what reading should a bulb socket be reading?

every other bulb working fine just these 2, i take it they are linked together, anyother reason they wont work?

    cheers

Are you just checking the positive side of the sockets? You need to put the multi meter on both terminals so you can see if you're getting 12v and an earth. If you are getting 12v and an earth then there is no problem with wiring or switches.

Well. I'm having a similar kind of problem at the minute. Not exactly the same but similar. I've got an escort giving trouble with the boot light and interior lights. I found the culprit in mine for the lights not working to be dirty contacts in the casing at the end of the switch. Just a case of,depending on the type of light and access, cleaning the contacts with some cleaner or, like I did a light rub of 800 grit paper to get the worst muck off them. They should be okay then assuming you have power, bulb, fuse etc like you said. If it involves the door switches then it could be a wiring problem like the other guys said..
