Ford Focus advice

Have discovered the head gasket on my 2003 Ford Focus is gone.

Just wondering if people would advise getting the gasket replaced - would cost up to 1000 at least and underlying problem may not be fixed and will probably happen again OR

Getting replacement engine. Mechanic sourced one with 66000 miles for 550 with 300 labour. Guess my real question is are these engines from breakers yards well tested? believe they're generally guaranteed for few months!?

What engine is in your Focus? It shouldn't cost anything near €1000 to do the head gasket.

It's a 1.6. Will probably at least cost as much as the replacement engine.

Is it a total stab in the dark buying engines from breakers yards do you think?

A replacement would worry me, who knows what condition it is in. I would have though your HG with the head being skimmed should be more like €600.

If you are near Dublin call Gala Engineering in dunshauglin, they do the skimming in house and could do the whole job.

I would say €600 should cover it as well. They are easy to work on so labour costs shouldn't be huge.

Depends if it was boiled etc but to fix it,it would cost nowhere near a grand...also breakers don't give much warranty usually a week say to give you time to fit the engine and test it...350 max would buy a secondhand engine.
