Haven't been posting much here of late and part of the reason for that has been that I've been finishing off a book about one of the more renowned Galway running clubs of times gone by - namely Derrydonnell AC.

Derrydonnell AC were often described as the Manchester United of Irish Athletics during the 1950s and ‘60s. They won 14 Galway Senior Cross Country Championships in a row, between 1956 and 1969, at a time when it was one of the most hotly contested championships in the country. Individual Derrydonnell runners won All-Ireland titles and championship races all over the country and the club travelled to compete in Britain and America at a time when international competition was unavailable to other NACA clubs.

The book, which is entitled ‘In Their Bare Feet’, is to be launched in the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry, on Friday 25th of November. There’s no admission change and all are welcome. Any proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to local charities.

I’d love to see you there…

I'm sure the lovely mods wouldn't mind you putting up details of how to obtain a copy if we can't make the launch Mick :)
