    Hi there,

I'm travelling next week to eastern Europe. Can I take meats eg. Sausages and bacon in my 10 kg carry on bag with Ryanair? I'm flying Derry - Glasgow - Tallinn.

    Regards,

Ryanair won't have a problem with it, security in Derry & Glasgow won't have a problem with it. The only issue might be if Customs in Tallinn have a problem (which I doubt very much).

Get them vacuum sealed when you buy them.

Will you be buying them in the Airport?

If you're bringing them yourself, I can't imagine that Security would let them through. But if you buy in the airport after Security, then you'll have no issues bringing them on board as long as it's within your one allowed item of luggage.

Why would security care about meat in hand luggage? I've brought bratwurst home from Germany before with no problems and black pudding to Germany without incident.

its more customs that care, when i lived in eastern europe, there used be signs all over the airport and regular announcements that it was prohibited to being meat or meat products into the country, i had me denny sausages confiscated:(

    Hi Evolutionix,

If you not flown to Tallinn, here is some information.

I spoke with a customs officer at Munich airport. Bringing
    meat into Germany is prohibited.

Allowed is only meat for one's own consumption on the day of travel.
This is defined as 200 grammes.
At Munich Airport the customs have a weighing scales.

    Munich is not Tallinn.

    John C, are you sure?

My understanding was that there were no restrictions for the personal import of meats from one EU state to another,

    http://www.iatatravelcentre.com/DE-Germany-customs-currency-airport-tax-regulations-details.htm

Fresh meat: the import of fresh meat and meat products is allowed, provided import is not for commercial purposes, up to a quantity of 1 kg.; game and poultry up to 30 kgs

Prohibited: -- effective until further notice, the import of pet birds & poultry and derived products coming from Cambodia, China (People's Rep.), Hong Kong (SAR China), Indonesia, Japan, Korea (Rep.), Lao People's Dem. Rep., Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam, in connection with Avian influenza infection risk; -- import of meat and meat products from: countries included in C.I.S., Portugal, Sardinia, Spain, Turkey and all countries of Africa and Asia.

I've had soft cheese (Brie, Camembert) confiscated as containing liquids but hard cheeses are fine.
