Will this be a public holiday? Also, is it in any way possible to be present at the inauguration as an ordinary Joe soap, whether inside the Castle or flocking around the entrance, ala Hollywood premiere? :)

I hope not. The last thing this country needs is a paid day off for the entire workforce for such a non-event.

Since Chesterfield Avenue is still being dug up, I'm not sure there will be throngs lining the park.

    Hope so

One extra day every seven years is not much to ask :)

Far too late now though to organize, maybe next time

It was announced yesterday that Ahern, Cowan and Reynoulds would not be attending. No reason given but seening that they are on the Council of State it is an insult to Labour.

As said Cowen was there. AFAIK Albert is not well enough to attend events.
Bertie? Maybe he was off advising the IMF on how to properly run a succesful country.

Reynolds did not attend because he is in very poor health, Cowen attended and Ahern was abroad and had been scheduled to be away for a number of months.
