I was running Windows Vista on a 4 year old laptop that was mostly used for web browsing & downloading, but it kept shutting down. Task manager was telling me that the cpu was running at 100% nearly all the time. It was getting very hot quite soon after booting up. I opened it up, cleaned the fan & heatsink & installed Ubuntu, didn't like it much & then installed Mint. I really like using this OS, but have just one problem with it; I can't get my middle trackpad button to work. Could someone explain to me how I can do this? bear in mind that I'm only using Linux 3 or 4 days now. I've had a look at a few forums but they all seem to be geared towards power users. I'd be delighted if I could sort this out.

Between the left & right mouse buttons there is a 4 way directional rocker button for scrolling etc. When I had windows installed on the laptop, I was able to open up links in a new tab by clicking it. Very handy.

Open terminal and type "lsusb" (it's for list usb devices) and send the output here - I want to find out what exactly type of pad you have. Then we can try to find how to make it work.

Doesn't look like it's listed there, is there somewhere to download drivers etc? It's an Acer laptop, would there be any Linux support on their website?

    Hi,

what model of laptop do you have? Acer xxxx

Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu so have a look here:

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportMachinesLaptopsAcer

    and here:

    http://community.linuxmint.com/hardware/search

to see if there's any compatibility issues with your laptop.
