Camera into Anfield

    Hi Folks,
I have tickets for the Kop for Saturday.
I'm thinking about bringing my camera but was wondering - what is the policy with SLR cameras in Anfield?
    Now, I have a Nikon D300 and a 70-200mm lense among others.
Does anybody here have experience to share?

Important note - I'm checking out of the hotel before going to the match, so I can't leave it back anywhere if I don't get in.

    Cheers!
    Steve.

P.S. mods - please feel free to move this. I thought about posting in the tickets and travel thread, but I guess that it has nothing to do with either. Thanks.

You're not supposed to take photos at games but sometimes a blind eye is shown to phone cameras etc.
However a camera like an SLR will likely get noticed especially if theres an eager stewart around. I'm not sure what they do if you are caught though.

But are you stopped from bringing them in?
I'm fine holding on to it and not using it. Just so long as I don't get turned away!

Will you have a bag with you?

I usually have a camera bag, but I'm going to bring a D300 with a 24-70mm lens and just bring it in a man-bag. The camera is going to be pretty much the only thing in the bag.

Don't think you are allowed a man-bag in any football ground, never mind the Kop in Anfield, tbh.

Do you have anything in particular you want to record during the game?

What happens when liverpool score and everyone around you starts jumping like madmen around you? I dont think telling them how much it cost will work as well as you might imagine, especially to the lad in the seat behind you.

leave the camera at home and enjoy the game ffs. nothing more annoying at a game than people who take out this huge camera for 90 minutes and is clicking away all the time. thats what the press are there for.

if you want to capture the memories and all that, one pic on a camera phone does the trick.

You wouldn't happen to be employed by one Patrice Evra in order to try get some defamatory shots of Luis Suarez?

Agree with this; its the same with gigs - if you want to record it just buy the DVD or watch it on TV.

Football is all about the atmosphere and you should soak as much of it in as you can - those 2 hours you'll be in the ground go quickly.

You can bring it in, no problems there. I've done similar before.

But, security may ask you to put it away and stop taking photos. If you continue, you can be asked to leave.

I agree with others, you're better off leaving the camera behind, and just enjoy the game.

I'm not going to let the camera distract me from the game. First time in the Kop you see, wouldn't mind getting a few shots of that and players warming up etc. and just the visit to Liverpool in general. I won't really use it during the match.
I left my 70-200mm and just brought my 24-70mm. Hopefully all will be ok.

    Thanks again!

    Thanks for the replies folks!
Just posting feedback for future questions.

Getting the camera into Anfield was no problem. We scanned the cards and walked in. (Though I did struggle to get my bag in :o)

However, I did go down to the front when the teams were warming up.
A steward came over to me and said "Look mate, they classify that as a professional camera, so you can't really stand on the stairs and take photos. You'll have to be, well, discreet, you know?".

I thanked him for the tip and went back to my seat.

    So there you go. :)

They're not man bags they're satchels & they are like credit cards, accepted everywhere ;)
