Hi all I'm looking at one of these with a view to buying. They are a lovely looking(imo) car and have a good spec.Being a Honda they should be largely bulletproof but I have read some horror stories about turbo problems and the lenghts people have to go to get them sorted. My question is does anybody know the extent of this issue-is it a lot of faulty cars or a few cars getting a lot of coverage? Has anybody on here have one of these cars if so how do you rate it?

I dont think the 1.7CDTI is a Honda unit I think it is Isuzu unit but thats not to say it would not be good.

Yes it is an Isuzu unit, the same one is used in the Opel Astras and Vectras

Those engines have no common turbo problems in the GM cars so unless Honda use a different turbo to GM there shouldn't be any issue with the correct maintenance.

Honda's own 2.2 i-cdti suffers turbo issues, are you sure its not those your reading about?

No I googled the 1.7 diesel and I got loads of posts about this and not much else I'm just not sure how many cars are faulty,if it was only a few I'd chance it

Well I have the same engine myself in an Opel and I'm not worried about any turbo issues. The vast majority of turbo issues on almost any car are down to lack of proper maintenance and lack of knowledge on the part of the driver as to how to treat a turbo charged car.

The 1.7 diesel Civic was never offically sold in Ireland so it is a UK import. Walk away if it doesn't have a verifiable service history.
