Does anyone know of a [small] set which will work with both formats ? As it's for use in a motorcaravan, would also need an external power pack in order to run on 12V. :) Any help would be appreciated.

Freeview HD > Saorview > Freeview

e.g. a Saorview set will get Freeview DTT signals (if available) while a Freeview HD set will get all three.

Freeview not to be confused with Freesat in which case a combo box is your only man.

So if I buy a Freeview HDTV from Amazon and it's a model number that's on the Saorview approved list then it will be able to pick up Saorview here when I take it out of the box?

The Bush DVB 680 Freeview HD box.

Does Freeview HD, Saorview and Freeview SD. You do know of course that reception of Saorview is only available in Ireland and Freeview is only available UK or border areas like in Northern Ireland and Wales.

I suggest you get a small wideband aerial for your motorhome.

Like FM the frequencies and stations will vary around the country you are in which just requires a simple rescan.

The one linked above has a 12v power supply.

NOTE: Not to be confused with the one they sell in Argos in Ireland which is not the same!!

"Freeview HD" should not be confused with Freeview HDTV. Freeview and Freeview HD are 2 very different broadcast standards. Some retailers use the words HDTV which is to do with the resolution display capabilities of the TV. Can be confusing so dont get caught buying an old "Freeview" HDTV instead of a "Freeview HD" TV.

Freeview HD is what you are looking for. For clarity, the logo looks like this images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTn6y6cwbD_VsjFRjfiAMSXzxsPbTlIboPjKtwiuusO0x8aAlBW

    (a) Freeview is available in some parts of eastern seaboard of ROI as well as in border areas.
    (b) Any reports yet of Saorview reception outside of Ireland e.g. along Welsh coast?

You'd be surprised at the number of caravans parked along the East coast that have aerials mounted 3M off the ground and aimed at Wales. Granted many would be from the analogue era, but in my experience, reception improved with DSO, so I would imagine it's the same for them.
