Smell of Roses

I am wondering if anybody has ever got the smell of Roses when there obviously isn't any roses or scented objects around? I have heard that this is a connection in the spiritual sense.

Anybody got any experience or knowledge of this?

Ive heard stories of the smell of flowers (cant rem if it was roses) associated with visions of the Virgin Mary, and various miracles to do with saints, so you might find something if you search on that angle.

A psychic once told me she could smell Roses as part of a spirit connection (I think it was because the connection was a lady called Rose).

But smell is a very common occurrence when people have paranormal events. Pipe or cigarette smoke is another smell that can be associated in this kind of thing. I know you are trying to find out if the smell of roses has a particular, recognised meaning, and on that, I just dont know. Fwiw, in the past I have had the most gorgeous smell of flowers occur for no reason at all, so even though I never explained it, I know what youre on about.

There are many non-paranormal causes of phantom smells: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantosmia . If you are concerned it then you may wish to speak to a doctor. Or it could just be the lingering scent of someone's perfume, fabric softner, or a candle.

Normally and I know this statement is highly controversial, but the smell of roses is meant to appear after an exorcism or when a spirit has crossed over .

You are allowed to say stuff like that. :) This place is not all just scepticism :) I knew I had heard of something like that too.

There are certain smells that appear in my house when a spirit comes in ie: my uncle comes in and I get the awful smell of cigarettes and cigars.

There's a couple of others who have certain smells associated with them.

Back to your question, I have no idea about the roses or what it could mean.

    Thanks for your replies.
I have heard of the smell of tobacco or cig smoke. In a spiritual sense people associate this with someone who has passed that use to smoke.

This smell of Roses was very intense, building up slowly and fading gradually. It was so intense it would make you sit up, take notice and feel great after it!

Im associating it with a positive rather than a negative and was wondering how other people viewed it (in a spiritual sense).

Definitely a positive thing. I've always felt that in terms of sensing spirit or whatever it is, smell is the best sense to use because it is least likely to freak you out.

When you say you have experienced strange smells, has anything else out of the ordianry been happening in your home?

I remember my Mum saying that the smell of Roses was associated with Padre Pio (she's a big fan, I've no idea if this is true or not) but I have gotten a sickly sweet flowery smell before - a few months after my Nana died I was in her bedroom and I got the smell there for about 5-10 minutes. I wouldn't worry about it, it's generally said to be a good sign. Ditto for the tobacco smoke.

I do recall my own Mum who's also a fan of Padre Pio mentioning something along the same lines to me. I stand to be corrected but if I recall correctly the smell of roses is linked to the stigmata he suffered (if suffered is indeed the correct word).

Could write a book on this one but lets go with the simple answer and say yes.

A lot of people i ask mention Padre Pio but when asked what does it mean they do not know.

As Oryx has said, its associated with the Virgin Mary and apparitions etc. Regarding exorcisms, I havent heard of the smell being associated with the demon being exorcised during the ritual. there is a reference to it in the book "The Rite" by Matt Baglio. Although he experienced if after an exorcism was over on his way home.

I am afraid I cannot answer that question either Ticktactoe. Only passing on the secondhand information really. Not into religion to any great extent myself so never investigated it further. I would assume the smell is to signify the presence of God but thats only a guess so I stand to be corrected.

Yes ! On one occasion in a house we lived in - my wife and the lads had gone out and I was alone with the dog. Sitting downstairs there was a tremendous crash on the bedroom floor above. At the time I was convinced that someone had entered through a window and jumped down on to the floor.

Anyway myself and the dog went upstairs to investigate and there was nothing. On returning downstairs I got a very heavy scented smell. When my good half returned I told her the story and asked her if she had been using the washing machine as that was the type of smell you also get from washing powder. She said 'No' and suggested 'roses' - the first I had heard of such a thing. I had to agree with her, it did smell like roses.

Briefly there were many incidents in that particular house but none in any other house we lived in. We got used to it, but eventually moved house for other reasons. Yes, I believe we shared that house with another entity, what one could categorise in broad terms a poltergeist.

Before living in that house I had an open mind about these things, however having experienced these things I would now be a believer but happy enough not to seek further experiences. :)

This is interesting and caught my eye.
A neighbours close relative passed shortly after receiving the smell.
He gave details of his final mins (who and what he could see). From this the local priests concluded that he was a saint.

My Grandad died in my sitting room due to a fire cause by him falling asleep with a pipe in his mouth. Tragic accident. Everything was burned and i remember waking up (i was about 13) with a pounding headache due to the smoke inhalation.

Anyways, once he was gone and was taken away by the ambulance i remember opening the sitting room door to see the damage. The room was destroyed as was his chair that he loved but one thing stuck in my head.

There was no burn smell...There was an odd smell of flowers. I couldn't understand why. Still dont know how or why.

    Very odd...

after my brother died ,my mam and dad and other brother were driving home from his girlsfriends house and the car filled up with the smell of flowers ,they took it as a a sign that he was happy they visited her, my dad is not a skeptic anymore ,they just couldnt explain where the smell could have came from

I have heard of this before, a number of people have mentioned it in conversations down through the years.

In my own case, it was the smell of a perfume worn by my aunt who died of cancer many years ago, and who swore she would pay the odd visit!

Interestingly, we have been on an "energy efficiency" crusade in my house the last few weeks after an alarmingly high electricity bill. I am now noticing that the utility room light is often being switched on a few monents after I switch it off, as I have briefly left the area (and there has been no one else around...) It would match the sense of humour of my aunt very much! :D

My Mum was also a fan of Padre Pio often commented on a smell od roses in our home and linked it to him.

On the other hand I live very remote and have often get the smell of cigarettes within the house which does not come from outside but from where I dont know.

i wouldnt think there is any one specific reason, its just energy..

it could be a million things...maybe its related to your life in some way? maybe you are picking up something in a particular area of the house, maybe you are being protected...

basically what im saying is noone else can tell you what your experience is!
(sounds like a lovely one :))

i would just be curious about it because the second you start thinking about what it could be you step out of the experience and go into your head, disconnecting from your senses

I've often got the smell of flowers at night in my bedroom. But years ago I was living with an aunt who has been dead now 30years there was a smell of a cleaning product on her landing always - not sure what the product she used to clean the lino but hers was the only house I have ever been in that had that smell. I've often woke up at night smelling that scent.

In my own case, it was the smell of coffee. The one that my grandma used to do...
I've woke up at night smelling that...
