Hey all hope someone can help. I use Google Chrome on my laptop but have windows ie on it too. IE runs too slow so i used Chrome all the time. My sis in law used my laptop and the message popped up about allowing Google Chrome access to my comp and she accidentally pressed no and blocked Chrome on me. I know i just need to get into Firewall Settings to unblock but dont know how. Been trying the last 2 days  Can anyone help before i lose my mind trying? Thanks

Start>Control Panel>Classic/icon view>Windows Firewall>Allow Program or Feature through>Look for chrome and tick both checkboxes (Make sure to click "Change settings" button prior). If you Windows XP there is a tab called exceptions or wording to that effect, I can't remember but look around for a program list and checkboxes

Hey Nick, yeah ive tried that already, its still not working message keeps saying
"Google Chrome is having trouble accessing the network.
This may be because your firewall or antivirus software wrongly thinks that Google Chrome is an intruder on your computer and is blocking it from connecting to the Internet.
    Here are some suggestions:
Add Google Chrome as a permitted programme in your firewall or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted programme, try deleting it from the list of permitted programmes and adding it again."

I have deleted it from list and added again still wont work, any other suggestions as to what might be wrong, going mad here, feel like throwing laptop out the window! :)

    Christina,

Try adding the rule manually>Add new program through firewall>Browse to Chrome install folder, to confuse you this is usually in the AppData folder not program files.
To easily browse to your app data folder in the browse to location window that has appeared type "%appdata%" minus quotes and hit enter in filename space. If using Vista or 7 this will be in the "Roaming" part of AppData folder, we don't want this so in the location bar to the Left of Roaming click AppData. Windows XP should load the correct folder automatically.
In Vista/7 after going back a dir from Roaming click Local. In here navigate to Google>Chrome>Application.
In this folder set a rule for chrome.exe to be allowed access all networks, See if this helps. Just out of interest Christina do you have an internet security package? What anti virus you using?

Ok heres a step by step, Open Control Panel>Windows Firewall:
    1. On left hand side>Allow a program or feature thru win firewall:
    2. Click Change Settings button>Agree to prompt
    3. -Click Allow Another Program Button:
    4. See if Chrome is listed, if not we need to->Browse button to find it.
    5. Now Chrome doesn't use Program Files which makes it a bit trickier to find, but I'll tell the long path name to make this less confusing.
    6. In the browse window browse back to My Computer and open the C: drive. In the C: drive open the "Users" folder. In the "Users" folder you should see your Username. Open it.
Is there an AppData folder in here? If there isn't-Don't panick, its a hidden folder so you may have show hidden folders disabled. To fix this
      • Open Start>Computer and when on the screen listing drives:
      • Press Alt key on Keyboard once, the file menu should appear in the explorer Window->Tools->Folder Options->View Tab->Check "Show Hidden Files and folders"->Ok Button
    7. Now open AppData back in the browse window, hit F5 key if you can't see it.
    8. Then go into Local>Google>Chrome>Application click on Chrome.exe in here
    9. It will now be added to Programs list, before clicking ok Click the "Network location types button", click both checkboxes then OK.
    10. In the final list make sure Chrome checkbox is ticked, try the browser again!
I know its awkward but thank Google for installing Chrome into a hidden folder by default, hope it helps, let me know if you have any problems. If the AppData folder still doesn't show try closing all windows after show hidden files and folders, and repeat process again!
