Does iTunes add DRM?

Got an ipod nano as a prize this week, and was wondering if i add music on my laptop to the iTunes library, will it add DRM to it that i won't be able to play it elsewhere on another device or back it up? as you can tell, the whole ipod craze completely passed me over :P

No, iTunes doesn't add DRM. Even the music Apple sells on the iTunes Store doesn't have DRM anymore.
