Try Google docs. It has an option to download the document as a PDF, Word file and a few others. There is no need to download and install any software on the PC.

Just to point out, the OO community are now working on LibreOffice which is better than OO these days (Devs had a row with Oracle so went their seperate ways, its a better one to suggest at present :)

If your needs are basic enough, maybe you could give AbiWord a try? The UI is not great but it gets the job done nicely.

Just make sure a Word-equipped pc can open your document - you could land into all sorts of trouble otherwise, seeing as it's a CV. This warning still applies to LibreOffice btw. Format and saving conversion goes nicely for Libreoffice/Abiword if you keep formatting relatively simple.

Regardless of which editor you use , save as .DOC 97-2003

you could use word viewer to make sure it's ok

This applies to microsoft word too as the .docx format won't open on older versions (including the 2007 word viewer !)
