Negotiating with UPC

UPC are currently doing works in my area and need access to put up cables. They offered me a discount on tv but now they need to increase the amount of works so are offering a longer discount. This is no good to me as I will be moving from the area ina few years. Can I negotiate with them for broadband instead? Has anyone else had experience dealing with them?

They will not give broadband in any deals, ur best bet is free tv or a a discount, personally i wouldnt allow them any access to my property unless they gave me a free digital subscription.you should be firm in your negotiations...best of luck on it

This is correct. They will never ever give free broadband as part of a deal. Wouldnt waste my time, but unless you are happy with what the eventually offer, do not allow them access to your site, home, garden, anything. Remember they need access to your site , more than you need cheap digital tv. UPC screw customers over, dont care about their clients in the slightest ( no HD SKY Movies, Sport, 3D, when in the uk, virgin and other media carriers have them, they just dont want to deal with sky).

Screw em, they will screw you!

Well, that's an option. But its also liable to be one that will make you Mr/Ms Unpopular among your neighbours, if they are UPC subscribers and you are the reason that they can't get UPC services. Ultimately its up to you to decide.

That may be so but I wouldnt allow any1 bully me into a decision, it one that should be taken by you and your family alone if u dont feel your getting a good deal then dont allow them access and dont feel in any way bad about it. It is after all you that will have to look at the wires on your property each and every day

The OP seems to have asked for your help so they could ignore it or at least not have the manners to acknowledge your replies.

Whatever deal UPC offer for using your property make sure to get it in writing or by email, and always take a name and time/date of phone calls.

i know of way too many case's were the agreement made in haste was not delivered in reality.

This is not always down to UPC acting in bad faith,it is often down to mixed wires(no pun intended).

Be clear what you are getting Gratis and for how long, make sure before any boosters etc are allowed that in the case of a misunderstanding you have some proof of the deal signed by UPC

Not true. No other carrier has these channels because Sky will not allow Cable Operators to have them, and it's Sky that do not want to deal with them, not the other way around.

Not true. Virgin media carry the HD movie channels. They also carry Sky Sports 1 and 2 in HD format. Complete list.

It would be half-and-half in the Irish market. Sky have a practical monopoly on HD services in Ireland and so are probably looking for a serious sweetener from UPC to allow them to carry HD services and compete with Sky on that front.

UPC are probably waiting until there's sufficient demand for HD services to justify paying Sky's ransom. Though to be fair to them, they're offering HD upgrades for practically nothing extra, so they seem to be trying to create the demand themselves.

In the OP's case, I would look for a better deal, but don't go overboard. There was a thread here a while back about something similar - UPC wanted to go across a guy's garden to serve a street, so he decided to play hardball and demanded a full TV & BB subscription for life, for free. So UPC instead went to his neighbour and did a deal with them and the threadstarter ended up having to pay to get UPC in.

    Taken from your link
You can also get Sky Sports and Sky Movies in stunning HD, just add them in the basket when you place your order.
