    My nan has this checkers board in her house, and every time we go there for a family visit, the first thing my brother says is "let's play checkers". :rolleyes:

    It's not the game in particular I have a problem with, it's just that every time we end up playing, I'm coerced into being blacks! Which apparently means I never get the first go.

    Does anyone know if it's actually a rule that whites always have to go first?? Or is this just a rule my brother made up?

    Rules state that Whitey goes first. That's why the old "draughts in the hands behind the back picking competition" is always done before the game to select who is which colour.

    Other than that you could try the old "everybody eats 2 draughts of each colour rule and whichever is shítted out first is the played colour" rule. Please note if this is selected, draughts must be washed before playing.
