concentration, memory and depression

Hello. I have suffered badly from depression for the past 4 years (I'm 21). apart from the usual symptoms, I have almost no ability to concentrate and my short term memory is very poor. All throughout school I did very well, considered myself to be very intelligent and would soak up information from reading very easily.

Now when I'm trying to study for exams in college, it feels next to impossible; I stumble over words, don't understand sentences, can't remember what I just read 5 seconds later, have almost no capacity for abstract thought or thinking about what I'm reading. When I was 9,10,11 I could multiply 3 digit numbers in my head.. now I can barely remember what 6 x 7 is or 13 x 6 is, without exerting a hue amount of mental effort. I've had to drop out of college twice because my concentration and short term memory are so impaired. It is infuriating losing my only strong-point for getting along in life.

So I'm wondering, has anybody here experienced this and recovered fully from it? If so, how did you do it?

OP - this is something you really need to discuss with a GP or a specialist.
Unfortunately it is not something this community is qualified to advise you on.
