download this, clean up the PC

Don't be afraid to try a browser like Chrome - generally runs faster on laptops and older machines

The Facebook problem could be a browser cache problem. You can use CCleaner to clean the Cache of all browsers you have installed (just close the browser and check the checkboxes in CCleaner).
To speed up your computer consider disabling some startup applications using the MSConfig method. This stops unneccesary junk ie Adobe, Apple crap starting up which can slow down your system. It won't effect your Acrobat Reader, Itunes, Flash etc operation.

If it's just websites that are performing slowly then try accessing http://speedtest.net

If that comes up good, launch IE and run http://howfastismypc.com

The fact that you bought your PC a year ago is irrelevant, a Pentium T4500 is not exactly 'fresh'. I still have some Celeron laptops on the shelf. 'new' does not automatically beget 'adequate'.

The reason facebook uploads 10 copies of the picture is because you keep clicking refresh: it keeps re-sending the command to upload the photo.

I suspect your problem is an internet connection issue, not a hardware or software related issue.
