    Hello,

We've a problem with a Win 7 netbook here. The problem is that it no longer wants to play ball with a PAYG USB stick modem. The same stick works fine on a normal size laptop. We've tried a few things with no success. One suggestion is that we reinstall Windows, which seems a bit drastic for something that should be fixable. Vodafone have no solutions, reinstalling the modem software didn't work. Question is, if so, how do you go about doing this on a netbook? I don't have access to an external/portable DVDRW drive and the recovery management console didn't seem to want to let me copy stuff to a blank USB stick. Any other steps we can try first, or if not, any reliable guides for reinstalling Win7?

    Thanks.

system restore may be your friend

Not sure, tbh, it's not my machine and I know little about it. It's Win 7 Starter if that has any bearing on the situation. Restore was tried last week, but didn't work in resolving this issue. I'm after trying it again there now, restoring back to August. PAYG stick modem still won't connect 'get profile failed'.

As well as the 711 error, I'm also getting error 1068 when I try to change things in services.msc and the suggested fix won't work.

Good news. Went for a fresh install of Windows, wiped the hard drive - went through the Packard Bell Recovery Management thing, but chose a different option this time around. Vodafone stick now works, hurrah!
