4S as Personal Hotspot

I was just wondering if any of the networks put a restriction on the "personal hotspot" use of the iPhone 4S.

As far as I'm aware from Apple, there are two ways to share your connection: tethering (which requires an extra fee) and Personal Hotspot (which doesn't). But knowing the networks, I'm wary of relying on the PH without knowing in advance whether it works.

Are personal hotspot and tethering not the same thing?

I've ordered the 1gb tethering data add on from Vodafone so that I can use PH.

Once you share your data of your phone with another data device it is considered tethering. Check with your network first. Had to get extra data added onto my account to tether

Our broadband went down last year and I had to tether the phone for a few days. It all went off the data plan and there was no extra charge. (o2)

Meteor & eMobile T's & C's say you can't, They tweeted that you won't be charged but i'd get it in writing off them as they could charge at any time for it as they say it's prohibited.

Strange, I'm sure I've seen on the forum that they allowed it.

It's written in Meteor's T's&C's "Usage of your inclusive mobile internet allowance as a modem is expressly prohibited"

    Thanks everyone.

What a disgrace that networks can charge for the same data twice.
