just email them a copy of the paypal reciept , they will release the item to continue its way to you then you pay the postman when it arrives

i'm assuming it was shipped from honk kong or china?

just sent the paypal reciept to the shipping company (or your own broker if you have one). once they get it cleared you then just have to pay the vat & duty when its delivered.

usually the reason you would have to do this is if customs will not accept the value on the invoice and think its undervalued

If your in Dublin then email dmc@revenue.ie. Your supposed to quote the reference number thats issued on the letter, if you cant find it just include the tracking number in your email and tell them you cant find the letter

Whenever I had to pay customs on something and I missed the delivey, I always had to go to a collection point in Kilbarrack

With my earlier post, no offence intended, but if you had bought something illegal like a stun gun or something, it would be a good way of getting you to admit buying it by providing the evidence yourself, as it's a laptop battery this obviously isn't the case.

That's your local district sorting office - no good for anyone outside that local area.

The OP isn't looking not to pay - just wants to know why the paypal receipt is required.

The chinese are well known for putting a false low value on goods sent to personal addresses and customs want to see the real price the OP has paid.

There's a sticky at the top of the first page in this forum taht explains everything.

Basically when you buy that battery in a shop over here, the price is inclusive of VAT and duty. You just pay the price advertised.

When you import from outside the EU, the price you are paying the seller does not have any VAT or duty on it. This is applied when it enters the country of final destination and the customs authorities there apply that country's vat rate & the european duty rate + the delivery company charges a fee for paperwork. (an post = €6 incl vat, UPS = €13.50+vat).

So next time you are ordering, you can add 25% to the price + €6 and that's the actual cost price you are paying.

(vat & duty are applied to the total cost including shipping charges)
