Hi, I am looking for a decent Tank Fed Electric Shower. I can get a Mira Play 9.5Kw for good price in Argos. It is not clear if this is Mains Fed or Tank Fed... Anyone know?
I have looked up Installation Guide On-Line and it states:
"The appliance is designed to operate with a minimum maintained inlet
pressure of 70 kPa (0.7 bar), for 8.5 kW and 9.5 kW"
Can I use this model for Tank Fed?
    Thanks

No its not. Its a mains shower.

The only real tank fed showers on the market worth buying are

    Triton T90

    Mira Elite 2

The general rule of thumb is any shower under 200 euro is a mains fed shower not a tank shower.

Just read the notes on this shower. Its a mains shower. Very simular to the T80 but theremostatic if your buying the thermostatic model

Is there much difference in pressure between Mains & Tank Fed? What I mean is do you get a more powerful shower from Mains Fed? Tanx

This takes a little understanding to try get an idea. But firstly, a tank fed one will have a more stable flow, unaffected by other items in the house, where as a mains fed one will suffer badly if the cold tap is used in the kitchen, or indeed if anything causes the attic tank to start topping up.

Now to pressure, or more accurately, flow rate from the showers. The max flow rate for a given temperature is dependent on the shower kw rating. The shower can only heat a certain volume of water per minute, and this is directly dependent on the kw rating of the shower (and a good enoungh supply of water).

Now an attic tank fed shower for example, can deliver a certain flow rate, and a 9.5kw shower can heat a certain amount of water as it flows.

If you get a 9.5kw mains fed one with a good mains pressure, and maybe more litres per minute can flow, the shower can still only heat the same amount of water per minute to the same temperature (from same cold temp to start with) as the tank fed 9.5kw one. So the user will adjust the temperature dial, which actualy changes the water flow rate to adjust the temperature.

This all means that you will get a better flow rate in the summer than winter, because the user will have to turn the temp dial up in winter to maintain the same temp, and is reducing the water flow to do so, with the temp dial. In winter, a larger temperature increase is needed in the water, so a smaller volume per minute is heated.

Over all, for instant electric, a tank fed 9.5kw one is the best to go for, a triton t90 or mira elite as said before.

Mains has better pressure but is not as reliable as said above...

Tanx for the explanation. They have a Tank fed in Woodies. It's either Tritan or Mira. I'll pick that up during week. Cheers

They stopped making the Mira Elite in 1999 so its at least 15 years old. The simplest replacement is to go with the Mira Elite ST. The standard mira elite st is 9KW 230v or 9.8KW 240 (UK rating). If you are thinking of getting anything stronger than this I suggest you get a REC in. He will check cable size (you'd need 10mm for anything stronger than 9kw), trip switch & pull cord switch. A lot of older setups have 32amp switch & should be upgraded to a 40amp RCBO.

Triton T90Z is a far better shower but is a different shape & you may need tiling afterwards if you went this road.

    Thanks a million slepper12
So just to make sure if I will get Mira elite st
I will be able to take out the old one and replace with new one without any issues?!
And I shouldn't buy any of this one mira go 9.5kw electric shower or creda 9,5 kw electric shower?
    P.s
No wonder why I couldn't find me existing on Google if it's back from 1999 :-)

The Mira go is mains fed and you need a tank fed so Mira elite st is the simplest.

You might need to add 6" of pipe but apart from that it's simple enough.
