Peugeot 407 Battery / Radio Issue (Blaupunkt RD4)...

I was away on holidays for a few weeks and my 407's battery went flat. Since a jump-start, the radio (Blaupunkt RD4) will now not turn on whatsoever. I do have a Dension Gateway GW300 hooked up to the loom (very similar to Peugeot's branded "USB Box") and can confirm that power is coming through to my phone (i.e. my phone is charging when I put it in the cradle). The CD eject / insert mechanism is working perfectly; my understanding here is that it's on a separate circuit to the main head unit loom.

I've tried replacing the fuse on the head-unit itself and re-seating all cables on back of it. I've also tried the "plastic button quirk" known to this unit in so far as that I've removed the plastic power / volume button and pressed the switch underneath, but to no avail.

If it were another head unit, I would assume that the battery dropping would mean I need to re-enter a security code, but the RD4 is coded to the VIN of the car it's in and as a result doesn't involve itself with user security codes, etc.

My guess at the moment is that the battery going dead has somehow caused the ECU to lose the radio coding in some way or another, but I'm really getting out of my depth with that assumption and, without Peugeot Planet and / or a visit to a dealer, I can't really test out my theory.

Would anyone have any thoughts / suggestions / experiences they'd like to share? :) Thanks a million in advance; dying to be able to listen to music / podcasts on my daily commute again!

Could it be a faulty radio/switch ? Another fuse hidden somewhere?

I'm not up on car electrics so my advise in this case would be get a new radio or bring it too the main dealer for advise.

I have'nt came across this before...
If the radio lost its configuration/vin number it would usually make
    a beeping sound.
Going by the elecrical drawings of the rd4 the cd has a separate feed and the
radio is fed from fuse 8 in the bsi (bsi is in behind small door in glovebox)

Check fuse 8 first and if its o.k. then get someone with Peugeot planet
and get them to go into the radio ecu...thats if they can get coms with it..? if they get in o.k. then get them to check that the vin number and all the other configuration is correct.

Thanks for all the replies guys and to Piri for the offer (I'll let you know over the next couple of days!).

Row, cheers for your input on this too - any chance you could tell me which fuse is fuse 8? I've looked online for a wiring diagram but to no avail... Even "3rd 15A fuse from the right" or whatever would be perfect1 :)

Thanks Row! I think that's slightly different to the layout in my 407, but I popped down to the car there and got the layout from the handbook. The corresponding fuse (handles multifunction display, audio, amongst other things) I had already tried but I tried it again for good measure.

It seems fine, but I did notice something that I didn't notice before while I was down there: When I hit the power button the radio, there's a brief pause (maybe 2 seconds max.) and, very faintly, the familiar gentle 'pop' from the speakers. It's the same sound you hear when you plug in a set of iPod speakers, radio, etc. if you get what I mean.

This coupled with the fact that my AUX device is definitely getting power since it charges my phone is starting to make me think the problem is in the head-unit itself.

That doesn't spring anything to mind with anyone, does it?

It does sound like your its a problem within the headunit alright...have you fiddled around with the power button..?
I know someone who has planet in the Dublin area if you want him to check it out..?

Yeah, I've fiddled around with it a bit, but there's only so much I can do, unfortunately. I've taken off the plastic case and tried pressing the variable resistor / rheostat / whachamacallit underneath, turning it, holding it for long periods of time, but that's about it.

Someone with Planet would be awesome, though I don't want to be a burden on anyone. I'll likely have to take it to a dealer in the next couple of weeks otherwise; was when considering getting PP myself since I think it'd probably pay for itself after a couple of missed visits.

That'd be great, thanks a million!

Yeah, seriously considering Planet. I'm pretty green when it comes to car maintenance, etc. but I would be very comfortable with technology in general. Do you think it'd be worth it? Also, where did you pick up your interface? I'm assuming eBay or similar would be the best place, right?

Sorry again for all the questions :)

No problem...I'd say you'd find planet pretty interesting...:)
I bought mine on ebay alright and it has never let me down.

I've just emailed the dublin based planet owner and I'll pm you if
    he can plugin.

Issue resolved, in case anyone finds this or is watching the thread!

After extensive research & troubleshooting and a *lot* of help from Row, it would appear that the Dension Gateway 300's firmware got slapped during the jump-start. I took it totally out of the equation, including the loom that it came with and, lo-and-behold, the radio sprang to life.

The solution was to upgrade (reinstall, really) the firmware on the Dension unit. The instructions are on the Dension site on how to do this.

Glad you got it working... where did you purchase the Denison unit? how much was it? was it easy to install ?

    Cheers

I bought it from gsmserver.de since they were the cheapest around I could find. It's the Dension Gateway GW300PC1 that's Peugeot / Citröen compatible. It's dead easy to install, you just need to get yourself a Torx T10 screwdriver to remove the head unit. Make sure you get a screwdriver with a long, thin neck; for example, those interchangeable heads on a big thick electric screwdriver won't reach the screws.

Please fire away with any more questions! I did a ton of research when buying it so I'm more than happy to share what I learned.
