THE OSPREYS COACH Sean Holley has banned his players from using fake tan, as the club looks to shed its Galacticos image.
The move is symbolic of a new era at the Ospreys, with a number of players having moved on, including Mike Phillips, Lee Byrne and James Hook.
They have been replaced by several promising youngsters, and Holley has taken little time to outline what is expected of them at the club, commenting how “the fake tan and the coloured boots and the Galacticos label doesn’t interest us really,” while adding:
“We’ve banned the tan. It’s real tan only.
“And you are only allowed to wear coloured boots if you’ve played over 50 times for the Ospreys or over 15 times for your country.”
The club endured a relatively disappointing season last year by their standards, finishing fourth in the Celtic League and failing to get past the group stages of the Heineken Cup.

I suppose with Hook, Phillips and Byrne gone it's not as difficult a rule to employ!

While Phillips, Hook and Byrne are good players I can't help but feel that them leaving is actually a blessing in disguise. I think Henson had said that Ospreys showed no real interest in taking him after the Toulon debacle too. From their league form at the moment they show no signs of missing the departed players. They were 6 for 6 until last weekend which included games against Leinster, Munster, and Ulster.

Ospreys definitely doing the right thing here, they used to be "the team to hate" in Europe IMO. Now my adopted club Toulon have that title! :D

Why not just ban coloured boots outright?

cause that could have an actual monetary impact on players who have endorsements

Seconded, every year they give me reason to dislike them more. Last season it was their players making the posts wobble when ROG was taking a kick at Thomond Park. I wonder what they'll conjure up this season?

Can't remember that but it is most definitely illegal. I remember playing an underage game and one of the lads was leaning against the post during a penalty. Ref ordered the kick to be re-taken because of it.

It would have been more impressive if they didn't make this into a press release and actualy got on with playing rugby. And let their abilities and results on the field speak for them.
