Is there any software that can record what you do on your laptop screen?

Say I want to record a demo of how to do something and want it recorded while I'm doing it on my laptop....

I've used Camtasia in the past. Good piece of software.

Comes with a 30-day trial IIRC, so if you're all set up and ready to do your recordings, you won't have to pay for it.

I would need something more long term than 30 days as I will be doing this for the next year or so

I used Wink for a lot of stuff a few years ago. It's a bit fiddly initially but quite powerful once you get going and most importantly it's freeware.
