    Hi There,

Im wondering has anyone done the H Dip interview at Trinity for the course choice French or Spanish.

I did my degree in French and Spanish at UCD. I finished up in 2008 and then I moved to NZ for three years.

My French and Spanish is rusty to say the least.

Is much/all of the interview conducted in your chosen language ?

I've got teaching experience but Im afraid my spoken language would not be good enough.

    Thanks.

You're going to have a very hard time during the course itself if your spoken Fr/Sp is not very good. I'm doing it right now in a language and I know the tutors are coming down very hard on people who can't speak the language properly, and almost all of your class is to be taught in that language. I've no idea about the interview but you should probably brush up before teaching.

Thanks for the advice. Where are you doing the H dip yourself -Trinity ?

AFAIK the first part of your interview is in English and then the second half is done through the language you choose to study in.

I think its like a 5 or 10 min general conversation about your learning of the language, how you did it, did you ever travel etc..

It should be easy enough to prepare for, but if your spanish or french is as rusty as you say then you need to start doing something about that now.

I would suggest a private tutor for about 3 months once a week - they are not that expensive. Just conversation to get your confidence/fluency back up.

Then do an evening language course in Feb or so, and try to get away for summer. If you cant get away, do another course.

My Spanish was very rusty 2 years ago when I went for my dip, and that is what I did. I found it so hard to construct sentences and didn't put Spanish down on my trinity application for that reason. Didn't get trinity in the end but pursued the Spanish somewhere else and got stuck into re-learning it.

Right back at my advanced/fluent level now - it takes no time at all once you immerse yourself as you are only reminding yourself of what you already know.
