    I wouldn't wear a suit but I wouldn't exactly wear t-shirt and jeans either.

He's going for management role, so to me that would suggest a suit.

Of course he should wear a suit! it's an interview - he doesn't actually work there yet whatever the dress code may be then.

I have, I had 6 interviews in total.

The 3rd was my first face to face, I was expected to wear a suit;)

First half was HR, 2nd half was HR & similar level manager.

4th was with Direct report, 1.5 hours

5th was with Direct report and director, 1 hour

6th was a Web cam interview with Director (Ire) & Senior VP in US

Jesus , what is it with people these days that they can't engage their brain for 2 seconds ?
I am continually amazed at the number of threads asking what to wear for interview but this one takes the biscuit - someone going for a mangement position and they need to be told to wear a suit

Rant over - peace , calm and tranquility restored.......

Actually any interview I ever had, I sussed out what the dress code was and I wore that

If managers wear suits then yeah I'd wear a suit if not then I wouldn't

Ive had an extremely high success rate in interviews and I think a lot of it is to do with first impressions and the fact that if you dress like a worker, you look like a worker and the interviewer sees familiarity in you

George Lazenby got the role of James bond because he looked the part! You can look that up, was reading it in a magazine

So NO it is not automatically a requirement to wear a suit, one interview I went for in a cinema a few years back I was told the suit and formality of it put them off

I've done an on-site interview in the last couple of months there for an engineering job. Firstly I was told not to wear a suit by the Google recruiter and none of the other guys being interviewed had one either, but we were all dressed smart casual. For a managers role maybe you should wear one but you could just ask the recruiter what is expected and I am sure he would be happy to help.

The interview was very tough and I found each one more difficult than the last. I had 4 interviews that lasted from 45mins to 60mins and they were all technical interviews. Out of the 6 interviews I done, none were HR related at all. It's a very tough process but they really try to get the right people for the job so I can see why they do and also can see why it works for them.

i have 2 cousins who work there in managers roles. dont wear a full suit, but a pants, shirt and jacket with the top button open. just leave out the tie to keep it a small bit casual. clean shaven though.

also if your friend said they speak a different language, google have a habitit of putting people in the interview who are fluent in the language to speak to you, so just brush up if thats a situation.

Thanks a mill for all the responses. He rang the interviewer just to be safe and as recommended by you,he was told trousers ,jacket,no tie.
Interview went well, now waiting for response

screw that, its about 5 interviews too many for me..

why not interview in bed for interview number #6 while they are at it to see how your REM movement is.

Googles comment on this is that you can look smart without a suit. You should be dressed so that you are comfortable. You have to remember that google is not a typical company, so fair play to the OP for asking the question.

If someone turned up for an interview at google dressed in a suit it would look very odd, and I think if would make the difficult process of getting hired even more difficult..

I would much rather see someone post a perceived stupid question and be given the correct answer, rather than not ask the question and make the mistake.

What type of job was this for? And did you get it? Those interview times look very long. Did you have two on one interviews?
