Unfortunately buying a car from a private seller means there is no warranty and the car is bought ' as seen ' , I think you will struggle to get satisfaction in this situation.
The warning of '' Buyer Beware '' applies very much in relation to private sales.

Why did you give the car back 2 years ago to get repaired? If they where willing to fix an engine then they must be in the trade and can't do a private sale.

If you've spare keys drive it away otherwise load it onto a car transported. If you get any hassle call the Gardaí and say he's not letting take your car. Don't pay a cent for storage.

Sounds to me like you bought off a person in the trade pretending to be a private seller. They can't by law do that so you may be able to get the SCC onto them if it's under €2k of repair work.
