Accompanying driver to/from test

    Hi,

Quick question on a greyish area. I realise that by law you must have an accompanying driver with you at all times on a learner permit. However, on the day of my test I will be unable to bring another driver with me.

If I show up on the day without an accompanying driver, will this affect my test?

No, it is irrelevant to the test as to how you got there, and you cannot be marked on it as the test had not started.

However if you get stopped by the gardaí you can be prosecuted, and even if you pass your test, the certificate of competency does not act as a full license, so you are still not entitled to drive on your own until you have the full license in your hands.

Hope this clears things up, best of luck in the test :)

    No it will not.

How you get to and from the centre makes no difference at all. The test only begins when you go into the test centre and are called.

As you said, it is still illegal to drive unaccomp, so there's nothing to stop you getting stopped on the way to or from the test centre.

My instructor told me that people very rarely get asked if they had an fully licensed driver with them, he said if it does happen just say that whom ever has gone to get a cup of tea while you are doing the test.

It may seem like a pain but the only correct advice is to have a qualified driver accompany you. You should not pick and choose when to comply with the law and when not to. It won't help your test prospects if you get stopped 15-20 mins beforehand by a guard and clock up some penalty points before you even sit the test.
