Egypt: Christian student murdered for refusing to remove crucifix

Ayman Nabil Labib, a 17-year-old Coptic Christian student, was murdered by Muslim classmates after refusing to remove a crucifix he was wearing, the Assyrian International News Agency is reporting.

The murder, which took place on October 16 in the central Egyptian town of Mallawi, took place after a teacher asked Labib to cover up a tattooed cross on his wrist. Labib refused, instead uncovering a cross necklace.

“The teacher nearly choked my son, and some Muslim students joined in the beating,” said Labib’s father.

“They beat my son so much in the classroom that he fled to the lavatory on the ground floor, but they followed him and continued their assault,” the victim’s mother added. “When one of the supervisors took him to his room, Ayman was still breathing. The ambulance transported him from there dead, one hour later.”

Is it just me, or are we seeing a rise in this sort of thing?

It seems anti-Christian thuggery is the last acceptable prejudice.

Anne Widdecombe has recently asked the UK government to protect Christians abroad, not just gays:
Defend persecuted Christians, not just gays, ministers told
Ministers stand accused of double standards by threatening to withdraw aid from countries that persecute homosexuals but ignoring Christians.

I think we need to be careful not to be the boy who cried wolf. In our part of the world, such thuggery is not acceptable. Not that I'm aware of anyway? Though if your point is a broader one, i can see how it may be interpreted as so. However, you'll find that if a nation or nations, need or want a relationship with a country, then it has a tendency to simply ignore the issues. Of course, if they want to invade such countries for whatever reason, then its, 'human rights abuses and a duty to the people'. In reality, I don't think they really give a toss about the people of other nations, but 'concern for the people' is a handy thing to quote when the need arises or when they feel that they can afford to have a conscience.

Is hypocrisy any real surprise in world politics though?

If there exists hypocrisy in foreign policy with regards to this, then I do think its good to highlight it. As I said earlier though, I think that rather than it being about gays and Christians etc, its more about which country it is, and if its in their interest etc to speak out against them.

this is happening in Egypt a lot, many christians have been attacked and cxhurches burned down,,,, its been happening ever since the foney "democray takeover" just so happens the army aint leaving power anytime soon and protests are beginning to happen again, anyway the "tyrants" in these countries like moubarrak and gaddaffi managed to keep these fanatics under control and now they have free reighn... watch it get a lot worse.... the christian bishops etc had no hassle or harrasement of any kind in gaddafi's libya - they cant say that now that the al quada flag has been seen flying in different parts of the country! ;)
Bottom line is the crooks/criminals in the nato and the un dont give a toss about ANYONE wether they be christian or whatever.... they just want power and will use any situation to make power grabs as they have done all over the middle east, Syria is next with Iran and welll the whole dam place is going to hell in a hand basket.

anway expect a lot more of these fanatic attacks on christians in the mid east , its all they want, the blood of non muslims where ever they can find them.

Lets face it... Sharia law means = Christians need to Shut up, Put up, Cover Up and keep quiet. Muslims expect respect when they come to the west, they want their Mosques and their customs respected. But in muslim countries Christians who have been their for Centuries (before they arrived) are not respected. They are not willing to allow Christians live in Peace yet we are expected to allow them live in Peace in the west.

Problem is Egypt will start to persecute Christians and this will follow to Syria where there is also a large Christian Population. Lebanon is also a Hot bed ready to explode again. Reality is its simply not possible for a Christian to live openly in a majority Muslim State.

Pity the many people tortured and executed (at times on live state television - in at least one case in front of a school assembly) for opposing Gadaffi didn't have an easy a ride as the Christian bishops. But as long as the old bish had his palace and no harrasment...

"They", "them" etc. Muslims aren't one big homogenous blob, you know? Plenty of Muslims would be shocked at the attacks on non-Muslims.

Scaremongering like yours is what perpetuates hatreds.

Is anyone wondering if we shouldn't just reinstate the Crusades and go back and finish the job?

I think you're confusing this with After Hours

It is quite disgusting what happen there. But they would probably be able to pick out a passage from the Quran that would prove their actions justifiable.

Just goes to show - Religion really does distroy everything:mad:

Not at all. What I do think is that we should not tolerate Muslim aggression against Christians for another 400 years before sending in the Knights.

Read your history. If it wasn't for the Crusades most of us would be Muslim now.
The Crusades were a defensive response to Muslim aggression.
    The job wasn't finished.
History was re-written to erroneously present the Crusades as a "bad thing" and aggression on the part of the Christians.
Muslims believe that crap and are using it as an excuse to incite hatred against the West and to persecute and murder their Christian brothers and sisters. Not that they need an excuse, but the West's anti-Christian presentation of history to further it's own anti-christ agenda is playing into fundamentalist Muslim hands.

wake up and smell the coffee!

Some of the people who suffered most in the Crusades were Orthodox and Coptic believers who were murdered, raped and had their places of worship desecrated by the Crusaders.

I can't believe this thread has been dragged so low already. :(
