Does anyone have an idea how much Id be looking at for 2 or 3 sheets of ply,
either 3/4 or 4 inch thick and of decent quality.
    Cheers

8x4x3/4 wbp ply is about €30 per sheet

No connection but they are handy for getting an online price for building materials

just be careful re quality when u get a price, there is a lot of ccs ply around that is brutal quality: u can tell by looking at the edges, there should be no waves in the flatness and fully filled layers.

u cant rely on the stamp on each sheet as there is plenty counterfeit stuff around

ring round your local builder providers they will set you right, dont price in any of these diy places they will rip you off.

like evrything price depends on quality and there are diffrent grades of ply,

    Cheers lads!

Also while it think of it which would be the strongest as to not bend (using one sheet as a table table) or would I be better to screw it to some 4x2

1/2 inch ply with a bit of 2x1 underneath works fairly well, but for heavy duty you could go 3/4 with 4x2 underneath and it would hold half the hurling team.

no! go 3/4 would not be a big fan of 1/2 inch and thats from my experience of working with the stuff

    18mm 8 x 4 ply sheets are around 25 euro a sheet.

Go for shuttering ply - best value of the lot imo, €18 for an 18mm sheet. There is some seriously dodgy ply from the Far East around which delaminates in no time at all, it's sold as wbp but won't stand up to someone breathing on it. It seems they've cut corners with the glue in the laminating process or the glue doesn't adhere to that strange pink timber in the outer lamination.

Went for shuttering ply in the end €20 euro,
when I was there, there was a hardwood ply for €25 forgot to get price on the marine ply.

Any downsides to suttering ply does anyone know?

Just the quality of the faces - you can get knotty voids which either have been filled poorly or you might need to fill yourself if you need to get a uniform finish.
