My view is that the 320d and A4 in that price range can be very hit and miss. If you get a good one you will be fine but there are a lot more bad ones than good ones out there.

04 Octavia or Focus should be available well below your price limit. Both are good cars but there would be better options available for a 200km daily commute.

05-06 Avensis very good car overall. Try to buy one with the DMF already done or else budget for it to be done in your ownership.

I would also suggest a 05-06 Mondeo as another option to add to the list. I think they drive better than the Toyota. As with the Avensis try to buy with DMF already changed or make allowances for it to be done during your ownership. Some 05s will have the TDDI engine and are a bit underpowered but very very reliable. TDCI is more powerful, refined and economical but there is potential for injector issues with them. Try to buy one that has recently passed the NCT so you know common issues like rear brake line corrosion, rear subframe bushes, ARB links and bushes and coil springs are all ok.

A nice comfy Peugeot 406 HDi would fit the bill. This one looks good and the spec is high but I'd want to be paying under €5k for it.

Yes, it's nice but overpriced alright. I think it is worth about €4600.

    What about a Passat OP?

If you are doing that kind of mileage a day you really need a larger more comfortable car.

I had a 98 one and it was a great car.

    Something like this maybe?

Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI. For reliability this should be your best bet
