UL and the surrounding area was bonkers. People milling around the streets I'm surprised there weren't no accidents.

I think UL students really let themselves down once again.

Obviously there was a mass exodus from the house parties to the lodge for 11/11.30 only for many people to be turned away. The refused were then trying to flag down every car that passed for a lift into town. Students off their face on drink, wouldn't be allowed into a taxi never mind a club in town.

    Smashed bottles every where.

    animals.

Don't think so - they were like animals and as usual left us all down. Sid has a fair point. I saw myself lots of UL Students being refused cabs as they could'nt even talk. All walking around with booze and glasses breaking everywhere. Just reminded me of how bad it was when I saw this thread again.

It's the same story every year in UL. Scummy little undergrad students go around smashing bottles, damaging vehicles, uprooting plants, puking the street, geting in fights, ending up in A&E and generally behaving in an anti-social manner. This happens about 2 times a year, at halloween and during ragweek.

I've been an on-off resident in Castletroy for 35 years and for the last 10 it gets worse almost every year, one exception it was so bad 3 years ago that the following year could not surpass it's antisocial levels.

i honestly think if you photographed these people, named and shamed them and sent the offending photos/videos to their parents you'd cut down on a lot of this scummy activity.

Obviously there is always going to be drunken students around castletroy, it's has a massive university in the area, yes sometimes it can get a bit messy but thats the same if you lived in town, after smyth's and mollie's it can be a state with fights and stuff, how is that different. Student's have feelings too! :(

Well town isn't really a quite residential suburb is it?

So your saying Castletroy isn't a college area?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 39 Carol.Lillie

It's a residential area. College area isn't a genre of land use. Castletroy existed long before UL came along. My family has been living in this area for 50 years. It's disgraceful the carry on out of students from the college during halloween and rag week.

have you anything good to say about anything?

And for the record the vast majority of UL students are well behaved during Halloween and Rag week

I was sober for Halloween as I don't drink much but the anti-social behaviour I saw on the streets was more down to underage Leaving Certs and pre-college students trying to act like big people. The majority of college students I saw kept their behaviour in the nightclubs they were in and when they did come out, only a small number were bad enough.
But yeah, so don't put all the blame on the students. Quite a few times I have found that it's the Leaving certs, especially when I was on patrol for the SU at rag week..I've never seen so many Leaving certs causing a fuss!

I read this and it riled me,
But I'll choose not to rise to the bait...
Tarring everyone with the same brush sways back into the equation though...

I know the majority of UL students are well behaved, there are over 10,000 undergrads and a few thousand post grads. I'm not implying that 15,000 people are running amok during rag week. What I am saying is, maybe, 5%, which is still a massive number, are causing mayhem, during rag week and halloween.

At halloween local teenagers play a part, but when halloween falls mid week and the students don't go home for it, it's significantly worse.
