hi, I live on a very busy road and am thinking of planting laurel,privet,or acer as a boundary in front. The thing is this will be quite near to the road. Will all the trafic fumes have an impact on the young bareroot plants? Thanks.

No, shouldn't be a problem. Privet, while not the most beautiful shrub, is very suited to that kind of situation.
