Why can't some posters admit when they're wrong

Just reading these threads on Sean Gallagher on Boards and Politics and the stubbornness of some posters is maddening.
The last few pages of the Boards one descends into absurdity and is priceless reading.

    Deflection.
    Obfuscation.
    Ad hominem attacks.
Ignoring perfectly reasoned argument before bowing out of threads only to come back a few days later with the same bluster.

    It's bizarre.
Black really is white with these posters.

Any other good examples you've come across?

Because in their eyes they are not wrong. Ever think maybe it's you that's wrong? :P

look if you want Gallagher to be president just hold your thumb over Michael d's face when he's on the telly and play a wet fart sound to block out his voice.

    Sometimes posters aren't right,
And you'll find they won't be polite
    and admit their mistake
    for everyone's sake.
Instead they'll go on all night!

Quite an apt username for a Sean Gallagher thread.

The absurdity is in the Gallagher-defender posts.
    How did you infer otherwise.

I didnt real your links but the thread seemed like another sour grapes post all right.

anyway my advise is still good :)

What did they say about Sean Gallagher? That he has a thumb for a head? If so then they are right I will accept no other opinions on the matter.

This is not a Sean G. thread, check the title.

OP you are absolutely correct. For one of many examples, look no further than the Clerical Abuse Thread in the Christianity Board.

Every point made against the churches clear role in covering up abuse is moved to this thread where it is buried by the same 3 people, obfuscating the issue by blaming the state as the primary cause of the abuse cover-up.

They constantly refer to the recent report on child abuse without referring to chapters or paragraphs as if it proves their point entirely.

    ...

    also in this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056373819

    I asked 2 questions:

    1) what did you spend your SSIA on?
    2) Who did you vote for in the following general election?

Not a single person would admit voting for FF, or either stand by, or apologise for their decision.
    Pretty spineless in my opinion.

    .

This word only exists on boards. I've never seen or heard it anywhere else. Ever.

It takes a strong character to admit they are wrong when they thought they were right, but it takes an idiot to admit they were right when they thought they were wrong.

The above in itself is kinda an admission that they're talking a load of balls.

haha, it's a nerd word, we use it a lot in the computer world.

It's been shown through site surveys that the majority of boards users are male. I think a lot of these online arguments are seen as contests or tests of manhood to see who has the biggest e-penis.

Don't bring issues from other forums into AH.
Take it up in the original forum or perhaps Feedback, depending on issue.
