    Hi All,

I'm in my final year of B.Sc. Science Education in DCU. It's a concurrent academic and teaching qualification. Just looking for a bit of advice in terms of seeking a job next Sept. My subjects are Maths, Chemistry, Science and also will have a special methods in CSPE.

When should I start circulating CVs in schools? Any advice for this?

Realistically, how many hours should I be looking to get next Sept.? E.g. If I am offered a position with X hours should I take it or keep looking?

    Any other advice for NQT?

    Thanks in advance =)

    G

3rd year qualified on 16hrs. Things aren't great out there. Too early yet to start sending cv's. Start watching papers from about mar/April id say maybe? Best of luck with final year and get the best result you possibly can, particularly in teaching practise

Take whatever your offered and keep looking. You are only offered something out of an interview process so if you take it and then accept a better offer later, the offer just moves along to the next placed interviewee.

You might get offered something like 10 hours initially but that could easily increase as the school year goes on as more allocation is freed up.

Get incolved in extra-curricular stuff as well.

Get as much experience as you can working with youth groups etc. over the summer. The more 'deprived' and 'disadvantaged' the better.
