When to do the timing belt on an 01 1.8 petrol Mondeo ?

Just a quick one - just gone over 61K on an 01 Mondeo - when do these need their timing belts done please ?

Assuming it is a 2001-2007 Mondeo then the good news is that they have a timing chain.

Going by Auto data all 2001 1.8 petrol mondeo's have a timing chain.

I think I heard it as well, that mondeo mk2 petrol has belt, not a chain.

A time chain is definitely better. Not only will it last longer, but if a chain breaks it breaks and that's all that happens; you have to repair it. When a belt breaks you run the risk of causing damage to the surrounding areas of your car. Definitely go with the chain.

01 mondeo were new shape and old shape.

If you have a new shape you surely have chain.
I'm not sure, but afair old shape was belt.

On modern cars the chain serves exactly the same function as a belt, and has exactly the same consequences if it fails.

A timing chain is definitely better though, but for other reasons than that one
