Can I recover game data from an old PS3 hard drive?

    My old fat ps3 went tits up, so I got a nice new 320gb slim. Thing is, all my game saves are on the old drive. Nothing too important except Gran Turismo 5, many many days of gameplay and lots and lots of cars.
    I did a google search and couldn't really find anything other than it can't be done, but they're old threads, maybe there's a way around it now:confused:. It wasn't a yrod fail, it was something else.

    I tried connecting the old drive to the new ps3 through the usb and nothing. Same with connecting it to my computer. Nothing. Doesn't even spin.:(
    Am I screwed, or is there a way?

    And yes, I know I should have backed up. I definitely would have done if I knew their poxy hard drives were unreadable

    when my PS3 went RLOD, i attached the HD to a caddy, and connected it to my laptop, it picked up the HD no problem and installed the firmware for it. But i was denied access to it for some reason.

    I also attached it to the PS3 but it also refused to connect. Maybe my HD was damaged during the RLOD. If you have a caddy, give it a try.

    Yeah, I have a caddy and tried it. Nothing. I think it's basically if you haven't backed up, you're screwed.

    Sadly I think so. I've had to replace my hard drive when my original phat got YLOD and when I put it in my new one it would say I'd have to format the thing, losing everything.

    Hate backing mine up, takes the best part of 8 hours.

    Does your old PS3 power up? If yes, then you can transfer data using an ethernet cable.
    If no, data is lost.
    Each HD is married to the console, if you put in a new HD, you will have to format it.

    It powers up, but it's stuck in a loop where it stops a bit into an update. Can't power it up to the proper menus. Pain in the hoop. Now I know why playstation plus is handy. Was just after copying 630 files individually across for pro evo too :mad:
