Broken clutch return spring

    Hi all,

I've got an 06 Focus, today when I pressed the clutch there was a popping noise. The clutch got softer but the car still drives fine.
I found a spring on the floor with one of the hooks snapped off.

If I get a replacemnt spring can I fit it myself? Is it difficult to do?
Had a look and it looks fairly tricky, couldn't even find where the spring goes.

Is it ok to drive the car without the spring in place?
I have a 2 hour motorway drive tomorrow, and a 2 hour drive back on Friday before I'll be able to get it fixed.
Is all the pressure of the clutch being put on the clutch hydraulics?

    Thanks!!

The spring can be difficult to fit, due to the location.Hard to explain exactly how to fit them!!!

they are an asolute bitch to fit, try get a look at another focus before you try it, i put one in where i thoght was the right place but stretched the spring

in the end i just left it out but the pedal is a tiny bit lower without the spring and might add to wear over time, i'm not sure

They are an absolute c**t to fit. Easiest way is to loosen down the steering column. I still have a scar on my left hand from when I was an apprentice in Ford after the first one I did. Some of the early ones left the factory without them afaik.
