I was let go from work mid June, Im living away from home, 25, I was good with my money and saved, I didnt sign on as i felt I would get another job soon after. I used up my savings since then, I've now got some part time work coming up, can I claim back dated payments or will I simply miss out because i didnt originally sign on when i was left go?

    Thanks

I would go to the local office and sign on Tuesday morning. You can ask to be backdated but I dont think they do that unless you have a valid reason. At the least you will get dole until the new job starts.better than nothing

You will only get a payment from the date of application. There are exceptions but they have to be very exceptional. If you apply now they will want to know why you didn't sign on immediately, they might want copies of your bank statements etc to prove that you had savings and that you were using it to live for the past 3 months, they will suspect that you could have been working in the black economy. Go to your local Social Welfare office asap, bring picture proof of your identity, a utility bill to proof your address and your p45 and be prepared to answer questions. Good luck.

    Hi there,

Go to you local sw office on Tuesday and apply for jobseekers. If you have been looking for work and can prove this e.g. emails, letters from employers bring those with you and apply for backdating of your claim. Download UP1 from following link if you have not had a recent claim with sw if you have then download UP6
    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Pages/jajbapplications.aspx

Bring passport with you as proof of id and a recent utility bill with your name on it. If you are living at home and all bills are in parents names then get a letter from them stating you are living with them and a recent utility bill will their names on it. You state that you have managed to get a p/t job if you work 3 days or less you will be entitled to jobseekers for other 3 days if one of the days you work in Sunday then this is disregarded. I dont know if you are entitled to jobseekers benefit or allowance from your post.

I did go in over a month ago to sign on but I didnt have all the details with me, the lady told me she'd give me a week to bring back in my p45 etc. During that time I was waiting to hear back from 2 interviews, I felt they went well and I was confident of landing one of the jobs, therefore I never followed up bringing the details back in. Unfortunately I didnt land either of the 2 positions, I've since used up my savings and start part time work this week.

Is that tough luck on my behalf for gambling that I would get a job?

TBH at the time I felt I could survive without applying for benefits, it has come to the stage now where I have no choice but to apply.

I have 8 recent emails where I applied for jobs and was unsuccessful.

Go in on Tuesday and re apply and ask for it to be back dated. It is up to the deciding officer to allow back dating. Bring in the emails and also the rejections from the 2 positions you applied for. Be sure and ask for it to be back dated. Ask for the back dating form.

I went in with my details and the chap told me an inspector would be in touch with me, that was all.
How long does it usually take for someone to be in touch, whats the procedure?

It appears you did not have an entitlement to jobseekers benefit and your claim is for jobseekers allowance which is means tested and you will be interviewed by a social welfare inspector.

In the meantime you should go to your local community welfare officer and apply for supplementary welfare allowance as an interim measure while your jobseekers allowance is being processed.
