Last night I stepped outside & trod on something. It reared up and I closed the door again.

I grabbed the G12 and went out another door. This is what I saw.

A little later I had caught it and it seems to have a few injuries. It's resting in a box and will take it to the Wildlife Vet tomorrow.

Much to their chagrin, St. Patrick never made it down to the antipodes.

    Jebus.

It doesn't look poisonous. As an Irish man I'm an expert on which snakes are poisonous and which aren't.

Did you give it a name?

    Michael D perhaps?

You are correct, it's not a venemous spiecies. It will try to give you a bit of a nip. You can see it coiled up ready to strike.

Being a Python they all get the generic name "Monty"

Not surprised it has injuries if you trod on it :D

Argh this thread reminded me of the cassowary or massive red back spider I saw in north Aus. Both times I thought "no point in bringing the camera with me, only going for a quick drive to lunch"

    :(:(
