    Hi,

I'm thinking of switching clubs. I'm looking for a club within 30 minutes of north Dublin city centre with an active ladies competition scene at the week-end and preferably a younger age profile.

    Any thoughts?

    Mags

According to the GUI Club Survey 2008 the average age of male members of affiliated clubs is 49 and according to the ILGU the average age of female members is closer to 55.

Statistics aside, best of luck with finding a club that meets your needs - googling something like "ladies golf north dublin" should give you a good start.:)

That is mental, 49 average. So I have 14 years to get to the average, I'm still not in a club. Lot to be said for a club that would have a younger profile as in 30 to 40.

Indeed, but dont blame the clubs - any of them would be delighted to have that younger profile. Its the ladies themselves who dont joint until later in life. My observation is that the majority of lady members are non working, mothers, who take up golf as 'something to do' to fill their days after the youngest child starts school.

The GUI / ILGU document, “Promoting Golf Club Membership”, does point to club shortcomings and recommendations as regards attracting younger members and women as follows:

“These surveys and others around the world reveal almost a “lost generation” of 25 – 44 year olds in terms of club membership. What these surveys have also identified is that a majority of nomadic or casual golfers are actually in this same 25 – 44 age group. In other words clubs as currently structured have failed to create any added value relative to the perceived value of limited time availability and the cost of casual green fees for these casual golfers”.

The document also contains information on The Women in Golf Programme. The Women in Golf Programme is an initiative introduced by the Irish Ladies’ Golf Union to help and encourage ladies of all ages to become involved in golf and ultimately to become members of golf clubs.

Above are only extracts - best read the full document on: http://www.ilgu.ie/uploads/docs/2138_ClubMembership.pdf

    Mags,
Did you get a reasonable club to join in Dublin as I am in the same situation now hoping to get a few games played this year ?
