Ok so, up to now I've been a pure DC & Vertigo reader but from what I've heard about a one Mr D. Pool Esq. I would like to get into the series so my question is of course, where do I start?

At the start would be the best spot.

    But seriously.

    What do you generally read?
Causes the DP books are humor driven action generally. Closer to Lobo than any other DC book I can think of.

If you're a trade buyer then there is plenty of nice stuff out there.
The highlight for me in the Deadpool series was the Gail Simone stuff that went on to agent X.

But the Cable & Deadpool Run was enjoyable for the most part.

And his own series was a tad hit and miss. There where some great moments but also some stinkers. He did become a bit of a parody of himself.

While the stuff that's out there at the moment is ok. If you're not familiar with the character then you may be left wondering what the deal is with him.

I am a trade buyer, yes and the humour driven action was what drew me to this initially. I usually read Bats and GL with a bit of Flash thrown in for comic relief but I'm also in the middle of Preacher so I like to think I can appreciate both ends of the spectrum. If you could give me a few titles that would be great and thanks for the reply.

I started with the Cable & Deadpool TPBs which are now bundled in Ultimate Collection trades.

Deadpool Classic collects the original issues from the beginning and there's the current series starting with Secret Invasion. There's a bunch of other titles too, which I've barely dabbled in.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadpool#Collected_editions has all of them, I believe.

The Merc with a Mouth - Head Trip hardcover, and issues #11 and #14 (both in Deadpool Classic 3) were particular highlights for me.

http://www.crit-hit.net/the-evolution-of-deadpool/ is a useful read, albeit one with spoilers.

Deadpool Max By David Lapham. A slighty different take on the merc with a mouth.
