I would just like to know how you deal with the nasty receptionist?
This is coming from a person who understands the everyday stresses involved with dealing with the general public.

I would tell her not to be so rude or nasty, if you challenge her she might cop on. these people usually have nothing to say when confronted.

Being a customer or a client, i wouldnt stand for that. I would report him/her to him/her manager.

    Empathy works a treat.

Phrases like........"I know it's been a long day\it's not your fault." Something like that. They've probably been getting sh!t all day and therefore are succumbing to it themselves and lost all faith in humanity.

This is ok if it's one day, we can all have moments but not everyday.

They take abuse all day, it wears you down

The post above about empathizing is good

If it's just one is it not just called a "facial"? :pac:

Receptionists tend to bear the brunt of every person in the building not returning phone calls, not sending promised correspondence, not arranging meetings etc. I'm not saying their behaviour is 100% excusable but a bit of empathy goes a long way. While you're dealing with the jackass boss who keeps fobbing you off, he/she is dealing with the boss not returning calls and all the disgruntled clients. It's hard to be Little Miss Sunshine everyday in that situation.

I am generally too stunned by their beauty to notice their rudeness.

Yes I do agree. I can't really afford to be be cocky as they have full access to my files. I am embarrassed going in there. I feel judged. I heard a information recently spread across my close knit community that only could have originated from the receptionist. I can't prove it but I am saying to people here: DON'T EVER CHOSE A LOCAL DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, THE RECEPTIONISTS TALK!

No, there is no excuse for taking something someone else has done to you out on an uninvolved third person. It's the definition of a contemptible asshole.

I presume that's an hilarious joke, but anyway I often have to do it in my work because basically everyone was laid off, including the receptionists.

I can see why some of them would be rude alright, given the sh!te you have to listen to on the phone.

Then they should change jobs. Either that, or suck it up and behave like a professional anyway.

I've worked public-facing jobs before where due to personal issues (long shift, hangover, whatever) I wouldn't exactly feel like putting in the expected effort, but I did it anyway as I've never been a whiny brat who takes out my problems on an innocent party, so I wouldn't tolerate being on the receiving end of same.

Anyway, if you never had to do something you didn't really want to, it wouldn't be called a 'job'; it would be called 'super happy fun time'.

There is no excuse for rudeness, you are there to do a job and if you cannot be nice while doing it leave.

No I don't agree, it is a good looking woman's job.

I lost a good job after interview because one of the employees was a GIRLFRIEND to the bosses best friend. The guy who got the job was less qualified and less experienced than me and I heard from a friend of mine earlier she had told them of medication prescriptions.
I am just urging people not to EVER EVER VISIT A LOCAL GP WITH SLAGS ON RECEPTION!

However some of them are human, and most of them are female, and well, we all know what human females are like...

Get a pair of rubber gloves and a plastic bag then head out into the street and find the biggest piece of dog turd you can find. Take the turd home and parcel it up and post it to the office where said rude person works. Nothing sorts out rudeness like dog **** in the post! If it doesn't try adult human & failing that the contents of a nappy from a baby who recently switched to solid food.

If you're a normal person then ask to see a manager

I was at the doctor's a few weeks ago and the receptionist was very rude, she insisted I see a doctor I did not want to see.
I simply told her I was paying €50 for the privilege so I would choose who I would see and that was that.

If she was having a bad day I made it worse but she sure as hell was not making me have a bad day.

got a call from uk based company looking for a late payment while I was at the gym. I wasn't expecting the call but I had the pods in and was well stuck into a workout and hit answer before I could reject it. Cue the loudest scouser accent in the harshest malignant voice demanding an explanation as to where the transaction was. (I didn't have one as I was completely unaware of the situation) I'm really focused on completing the set I was at and breathing quite heavily into the mic at this stage and just leave her rant away in the background and by the time she's finished I can barely expend the energy for a response and all I can manage is a semi grunt while I bear out the last few presses. The fone went quiet and eventually I ask if she's still there and she whispers a yes so I explain that I'd have it sorted within the hour. She politely thanked me for my business and wished me a nice day.

    tl:dr
    breathe heavily down the phone.

This is a bit of a situation. This ain't a rude receptionist, this is a person ignoring her duties as an employee in a place that is supposed to be confidential. I dont even talk about who I meet in the waiting room at my surgery. Get proof and report them I say. Gossips need to be silenced.

Thank you. I will . They ruined a career opportunity for me

Rude deli workers are the most galling. If I'm going to pay over the odds for a sandwich I don't want to have to look at scowls because they seem to think you interrupted their real job of standing around like a clown.

If it happens again the manager will hear about it and the shop will be mentioned on these boards.

Prior to my visit, how do I go about ascertaining whether the local GP's reception is staffed by said slag?
