I'm not even sure that this is a phobia, but here goes.

I love the water as far a boats and fishing goes, I can haul nylon all day, I think I even breath to the rythm of the waves. I was born with a skull cap, a fishermans good luck piece. Anyway that's just backround, my fear is being left in the sea, shoulders and head above water, I have no problems so far, a small boat comes along and I have no problems, but a liner comes along and I nearly lose my life with terror, I can't explain it. Please don't laugh, I'm deadly serious, is this a phobia?

Just to point out, no one would laugh at any phobia (least I'd hope not), if it's a phobia/issue for you, then it's real.

I can understand what you're saying, it's like you're freaked out by the sheer size of the liner. Odd comparison, but I remember in college, there were whale jaw bones (though they looked like rib bones in shape) standing up against a wall (HUGE!) and if I imagined the size of the whale right there, imagining how big it would be in front of me, I'd freak myself right out! Because of how large it would be in my presence, rather than being scared of a whale (if that makes sense).

I don't know if your phobia is meglophobia but it could be connected, that seems to be fear of large objects. Someone on another site described it:
"It's sort of like these objects are monsters. Buildings are not part of this fear, I believe I see them as inanimate. This is more connected to objects that are capable of moving, or give the appearance of movement or sentient thought. The idea of being next to a whale or the hull of a ship terrifies me."

    Ditto on the notifications/emails!
It is good to know sometimes just that you're not alone in feeling that way. It kinda justifies how you feel, even though if you were the only one it doesn't make it any less real.

Exactly, I'm sitting here thinking when am I going to be faced with that scenario? hopefully never, so it shouldn't matter, but at the same time I'm wondering is it normal to be even contemplating this. Knowing others think it too validates that to a degree.

It's like when a child wakes up scared at night and you sit with them and tease out the problem and you can both look under the bed together.....:)

I am the exact same even thinking about it makes my heart race, like thinking of looking upwards at the underneath of a ship when you're in water and i'm petrified of whales i can't go near the ocean for this reason if i even look at a picture of the sea i just imagine huge things in it and it panics me. I also cant watch anything where the camera goes underwater, i'm able to swim well and swimming pools are fine, its just the sea.

Really nice to see i'm not alone on this one cos everyone laughs when i tell them, but it's really horrible!

Star-pants I think what you described is exactly me, that I'm not afriad of large things just the ones that can move.. Horrible isn't it :(

I have meglophobia myself. I just about fainted in the car passing machinery fixing a bridge. Then went into a panic. I don't don't don't like towers, gigantic machines, I don't look at telephone poles. Its a nightmare. But if it has to do something with my kids.. I try to deal with it as best as I can. My son needed a scan and I told the nurse to lead me in because one glance at the machine would have me passed out. Started to get dizzy but my son needed me so I did my best. Will have to see someone about it if it gets worse though. Its embarrassing to be afraid of things like that all because of its size. Lol in the same. Oat about the ocean. I live near thebea h. So when I see dark huge shadows I'm like wtf....
