Yeah once from a summer job, never from a real job though. Feel really sorry for those who do though, say can be so humiliating.

    Yeah!

My old arsehole of a boss fired me back in '06 (well he let me go)

I was in the job 1 month replacing a guy who worked had my job. Boss wouldn't shut up about how great he was, a real golden child, could do no wrong but unfortunately circumstances meant the other guy had to leave

About a day or 2 beforehand I remember a guy in the store yapping to the boss a few days in a row. Turns out it was him and the boss fired me and took him back. Some cack about my performance. I worked quite hard in there I felt

Pretty much so, the working relationship had broken down completely so I knew I was on my way out one way or the other.

Yes. In reality they never say "you're fired". It'll be "We have to let you go", "Things aren't working out" etc. Call centres are the best for this, three suited teenagers in a room trying to fire somebody nicely....they never get that you didn't want the ****e job in the first place.
Just be polite and collect a reference if possible.

I was fired from the Guinness world of records exhibition in 1988 for messing with the exhibits, it was the most boring job in the world so i had to amuse myself somehow.

    Fun times !

After that I had to grow up.

    Yeah. Twice.

Once was not my fault and I was reinstated immediately.

The second was less clear cut and a nasty dispute followed.

Did it involve anyone being blasted with piss ?

Worked for a big computer company who dealt mostly with sales over the phone/internet for a while after school. I was in the call distribution switchboard part and the amount of callers I had who were being messed around by sales people after they handed over their money was unreal. In my first few weeks after experiencing delays some customers were having, it was coming up to Christmas and I'd have people ringing up asking to buy a computer and they'd ask me if there would be time before Christmas to place an order. The sales guys would say yes of course, but before I put them through I asked if the computer was a "santa" present, those who said yes I'd tell them you might have to tell your children Santa doesn't exist because there's a big chance you won't get it on time, some thanked me and hung up.

Another time I had a customer on the phone to me and was being messed around and asked to speak to a team leader, who was right behind me but told me to tell the customer she was in a meeting, which was bull, so I told her I'm not going to lie for her.

There was a lot of this going on until one day I had a little lad on the phone to me who was trying to sort out a computer for his mam who was disabled and needed it to aid her communication or something, he was also being messed around so I sent a mail to the sales guy with an abrupt subject of "sort this". The next day I come in and am asked up to the office and told the sales guy made a complaint against this "rude" subject line. I explained the situation and went on a little rant about how badly they treat their customers and how badly the place is run to which I was told if that's how I feel that my boss wouldn't be a good boss if she left me stay feeling that way so I had to pack and go. It was just a stop gap job to get a bit of money while I was waiting to start something else. So half got fired, half quit :)

Once, from a summer job, but the boss was totally in the wrong. I had an extremely bad case of scarlet fever-I actually had to be hospitalized for it later which is pretty rare in healthy adults-and called to say I couldn't go in. There was a mad rush to get someone to cover me, and my friend was called in to work. She was making a laugh of the situation and said "ah she's probably just hungover" and the boss went ballistic, called me, screamed down the phone and all I could make out was "your fired, you ungrateful bitch!" I took great pleasure in handing back my uniform with a solicitors letter attached. Got a bonus pay cheque from her to apologise!!

    Yep

Worked as a kitchen porter, a dirty, nasty job and I earned the princly sum of three punts an hour.
Hours over a steaming sink washing pots, cleaning floors and bins, washing drains and taking abuse from chefs that make Gordon Ramsey look like a pussy.

What is with chefs and their bullying ways

Came in for late shift, the two other porters doing fook all by the dishwasher and a mountain of pots waiting for me, nearly taller then myself. What were they doing all day??? Ah I know, they left it to me as I'm quiet and dive into this work

Blazing row ensued and I half got fired/half walked out

Realy I'm a sucker like that. I jump in and do the donkey work while others swan around. It's happened to me in other jobs too

I never speak up and let things build up for weeks and weeks and then one day explode :o

I was fired from the dole once

    no

but like others I did walk out on one job before.

had about 3 managers (which is always a recipe for disaster + one of them couldnt use a pc properly ...old lad, felt sorry for him so I ended up doing a portion of his job so he could stay in it)

one manager was a nasty piece of work....constantly manipulating and intimidating his sales and admin staff subtly and not so subtly etc etc....physically threatened me once (invasion of space type thing)...he picked the wrong target that day as I intimidated him back, stuck my face right into his and nose to nose forced him back into the office in front of his team (sly scumbag had tried to corner me in private) + gave him a good old humiliation in front of his staff (didnt particularly need the job so I made it nice and personal) will never forget the look of gratitude on his personal secretarys face who he bullied in his own particular passive aggressive manner from day one I was told later

nothing was said and no action was taken but shortly after and partly because of this and because they were basically exploiting staff in the place (at least imo) and because I didnt need a reference (was going on to do more postgrad) I decided it was my time and opportunity to stick it to the man....I might never get another one I thought at the time.

requested what annual leave I had built up..enjoyed the measly couple of days..then went sick .....seen how long I could get away with....came back in occasionally....for a day to prolong the time etc, basically fcuked them around as much as possible......got 8 weeks pay out of them

and then (unbelievably for me at the time) was offered nearly as much money to take up a part time role with them while I studied at college.............told them where to go and why.

real eye opener for me (doesn't always pay to be a good boy and take sh1t - you seem to get exploited even more)......

never been told to leave any job though and I work hard if I'm treated fairly.

Yeah I told lies to get off work in my very first job. Then my silly bastard of a sister opened her big mouth and my tower of lies crumbled.

Not fired but like another poster I did walk out as I was being blamed wrongly for something. The boss shouted after me"Don't ever come back again" I shouted back "You'll need me before I'll need you". A week later he called and asked me to go back:) I did go back but got great satisfaction in saying "I told you so"..

    Unfortunately not.

However, if I had had my way they'd have been blasted with sh1t

Got fired off a few doors over the years, normally I wasn't willing to break the law like the manager wanted me to.

Not a one of them wasn't eventually asking me to come back and help clean up the clientele after the chancers they brought in turned out to be **** security staff though.

I got let go 2 days after handing in my months notice before. Told them I was going to Oz, there was cuts in each department so they picked me as the easy target.
While I was in Oz, I got snitched on by someone saying I was hungover. Got a phone call from the boss the next day saying I was sacked for going in hungover. It was only short term contract role anyway.
There was another time I was working in a supermarket for the summer before i went back to college. Hated the place so started dossing every day and didnt do any work. They brought me into the office and told me they wouldnt be keeping me on passed my probation period. Took out a pen and paper then and there and wrote out me weeks notice to them! They took that so technically I quit! :p

A few jobs like kitchen porter, casual labourer, Santa and shelf stacker. No great loss, in all honesty.

I've been in my current job for 11 years now and things aren't as solid as I'd like. But I don't like the gig anymore. But what now? I'm too old to consider another career in this climate.

Is being made redundant the same as being fired? If so, then yes I have! Horrible feeling at the time, but I found it was actually a fun time: helped that I got on well with my coworkers and it's also good to not work for people who don't respect their employees.

I have walked out on a couple of jobs in time.

Yip, unfairly and made sure they knew they where wrong. Hope the place goes under, dirty ba***rds. Smiley little f**ker who wanted me out got someone else to do the dirty work. Hadn't done anything wrong in my time there, worked hard, went above and beyond the call of duty, Heard they are struggling big time now, ha fcking ha....

Yes I am bitter about it.
